Little River was the first known community in Horry County and was first settled by the Lewis's and Waitie, Vereen and Tilighman families The area is mainly made up of old scrub pine forests, marshes and swamps and is bordered by the Waccamaw River and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. Live oaks, Spanish moss, and palm trees dot the landscape. The community is host to an annual Blue Crab Festival each May.
